Can you imagine what it would be like to live at church all the time?

This is where our TrailBlazer Samuel spent every day.

Last time we talked about Samuel it was when Hannah prayed for a baby.

Can you tell me why Samuel was living in the Temple? 1 Samuel 1:24

Hannah promised Samuel to God and she gave him to live in the temple.

Can you imagine that?

Before we get to chapter 3 we need to know what happened in chapter 2.

Chapter 2 tells us that Eli’s sons, who were priests, Were doing bad things and stealing from God.  Eli was told by a good man what was going on but he did nothing.

How difficult is it to be in a place where people get away with doing bad stuff.

God saw, God knew and God had a plan. Let’s find out what happened.

Read from vs 2-12.

Where was Samuel sleeping? (vs3) This was a very special holy place.

How many times did God call Samuel?

What did Eli tell Samuel to do?

What did Samuel do?

Do you sometimes find it hard to listen, why?

How do you think Samuel felt when God spoke to him?

Can you name some ways that God speaks to us? God speaks to us through the Holy spirit, through stories and songs and every living thing that he has created. God is speaking all the time. The question is are we listening. Let’s be good listeners. Listen not just with our ears but with our eyes too. Let’s use all our senses to hear God’s words

What are our Words to Remember for this week?

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me.” John 10:27

Samuel did this his whole life. We can too.

Go on a listening walk. Take paper and pen and when you hear something, take time to listen and write down what you can hear. Can you tell if the sound is close by or far away? Is the sound man made, like a mower, or is it natural, like a bird?

Play this video. Find a pack of post it notes and write words that encourage your family and friends. Place these notes where your family and friends will see them.

Marco Polo

Mark out a place to play where all the players stay inside the space. One person is blindfolded. The blindfolded person is called Marco.  To start the game Marco calls out “Marco.” Everyone else in the game responds with “Polo.” Marco then tries to tip someone calling Polo. If a Polo is tipped then that person is now Marco and the game begins again.

Chinese Whispers

Sit in a circle with a group of friends. One person begins the game by whispering a sentence to the person sitting next to them. Each person whispers the sentence until it is back to where you started. The last person says out loud the whisper they heard. The first person tells the whisper from the start. Did the whisper change?

TREEHOUSE KIDS

At the end of chapter three the writer tells us that  The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground.. What do you think that means? Play out this verse. Blow up a balloon and write on it with a marker all that you want to say to God. Using your hand, tap your balloon and see how long you can keep it in the air. Know that God always hears our prayers, they are never left lying around on the ground, forgotten. God knows what you want and what you need. Exciting things happen when we want and need what God wants for us.
