HEY KIDS!

This week is all about - how generous God is.

Our Trailblazers are Jesus and Joash

Kids Worship Service Journal

 Key Text - Luke 18:9-7

What’s Happening - What’s Happening - Jesus tells a parable about how two men come to the temple or church to pray. One is full of how important he is and the other is ashamed of how he is. Which one do you think experiences Gods Generosity? From the old testament we meet Joash, a small boy hiding from an evil Queen. What happens to him and how does he become a trail blazer. Explore these two stories and see if they help you become a trail blazer too. How do these stories show us God’s Generosity?

Have you ever been with a group of people and they treated you like you didn’t matter? That they were somehow better than you? How did that feel?

Today we are reading about a parable that Jesus told to a group of people who thought that they were better than everyone else, and that no one else mattered.

Let’s read Luke 18:9-14 and see what it says.

Who are the two people in our parable? What is a Pharisee? What is a tax collector?

A pharisee is a member of an ancient Jewish sect, distinguished by strict observance of the traditional and written law, and commonly held to have pretensions to superior sanctity.

A Pharisee kept the rules and made sure everyone else did too. They thought that because they kept the rules that this made them better than everyone else. ( Do you know anyone like that? Is it you?)

Tax collectors in bible times were seen as being greedy and mean. Taking from their own people and giving it to the Roman Rulers.

What does the Pharisee do in the story?

What does the tax collector do?

What does Jesus say about each one?

Why do you think he said that?

Can you tell me the words to remember for this week? John 3:16

Does it say that God loves only the people who keep the rules?

Does it say God loves only the people who do everything right or are good at everything?

God loves the world, and everyone in it.

Why did God give his son?

So that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.

Who do you think the pharisee believed in?

Who do you think the tax collector believed in?

The Pharisee was so full of himself there was no room for love of anyone else, not even Jesus.

Do we sometimes only think about ourselves all the time?

The tax collector was so ashamed he poured his heart out to God asking for mercy for all the bad things he had done.

Like the tax collector, we can always say sorry and ask for Gods mercy.

Jesus says that this man went home right with God.

God is so generous that he covers all the bad things we have ever done. All he asks is that we say we are sorry and that we try to make things right.

Can we think of some things we need to say sorry for?

Know that God is always ready and waiting to fill us up with goodness when we pour out all that has made us feel bad. That is what he does.

This is how generous God is.

Simon Says

One person is designated Simon, the others are the players. Standing in front of the group, Simon tells players what they must do. However, the players must only obey commands that begin with the words “Simon Says.”

If Simon says, “Simon says touch your nose,” then players must touch their nose. But, if Simon simply says, “jump,” without first saying “Simon says,” players must not jump. Those that do jump are out.

Follow directions and stay in the game for as long as possible! The last player standing wins and becomes the next Simon. If you’re Simon, the object is to try to dupe the players to follow your commands when they shouldn’t.

The bible tells us that Jesus calls the children to him.Can you imagine the kids playing and Jesus playing with them. I wonder if Jesus played simon says, a hebrew version? What do you think Jesus was like to play with?

Make a plan to be generous. Using a jar some stickers or permanent markers, design your own money jar like the one below. Save your money for a moment of generosity. Pray that Jesus will give you a person to be generous to. It might be that you buy flowers for the old lady down the street. You might pay for some one to go on an excursion they cannot afford. It’s always good to think of ways we can help others. God is so generous with all that he has given us, all he asks is that we be generous too.

Playhouse Kids can Make This Temple. Imagine what it would be like to make this same temple big enough to fit your whole family in. Repairing the temple was a big Job for King Joash and the Israelites. Everyone needed to help out in many different ways to get it done. How can you help finish something? When you help someone with all of your heart that is called being generous.

Check out what Tim and Brooklyn are up too. Have a go at trying this experiment at home. Make sure you use plastic cups.

Try being generous with your time. We can use our time to help others in small ways, from walking the neighbour’s dog to taking out the trash. Spending time with an old person or find a moment to read a book to a younger sibling is time well spent. The greatest gift you can give someone is your time. When you give time you are giving a part of your life that you will never get back.

Gods is so generous, he always gives us more, when we give with all our heart.

Playhouse Kids - Can you make a tower out of blocks. Unless you have one very big block you will need to search for as many blocks as you can find and put them together. You may need to ask for some help. My favourite thing to build with is lego. Gods favourite thing to build with is people, who love him and each other. Your family and friends are awesome. They are made in love.

We would love to see you playing, trying, making and sharing! Please share your photos with your KellyvilleKids community in our WhatsApp Group. If you’re new to our KellyvilleKids community and would like to stay connected, contact us.
