What’s Happening - Galatians is Paul's first letter in the bible. He is telling us who he is and why he is writing. Freedom in Jesus' name is the reason for this letter. Paul is reminding us of the good news of Jesus’ love for us and how that can make tough times easier. We are going to explore some tough stories and look for the good news in them.
Words to Remember - Treehouse

Have you ever played a game where someone kept adding rules? How was it?
The letter that Paul wrote to the Galtians is all about how people were adding extra rules to the good news.
Paul has written 13 books of the bible and each one has the Gospel good news at its heart. These books are letters to churches. We can read these letters today and learn from them just like the Christians did thousands of years ago.
The book of Galatians opens up with,
The Only Good News
1 From Paul, an apostle. I was not chosen to be an apostle by men. I was not sent from men. It was Jesus Christ and God the Father who made me an apostle. God is the One who raised Jesus from death.
While this is the first letter that Paul wrote to the churches, this is not the first time that we meet Paul in the bible. We are introduced to Saul in the book of Acts 7:54-60- The Killing of Stephen.
Stephen was a really good guy. He helped so many people, he really was a great example of live love serve. Stephen believed in Jesus, he was called before the religious leaders and this is what happened.
54 When the leaders heard Stephen saying all these things, they became very angry. They were so mad that they were grinding their teeth at Stephen. 55 But Stephen was full of the Holy Spirit. He looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God. He saw Jesus standing at God’s right side. 56 He said, “Look! I see heaven open. And I see the Son of Man standing at God’s right side!”
57 Then they all shouted loudly. They covered their ears with their hands and all ran at Stephen. 58 They took him out of the city and threw stones at him until he was dead. The men who told lies against Stephen left their coats with a young man named Saul. 59 While they were throwing stones, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!” 60 He fell on his knees and cried in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” After Stephen said this, he died.
This is where we first meet Paul. Paul was called Saul before he met Jesus.
Can you find the good News in this terrible story?
Stephen sees Jesus standing at God's right hand. That all Jesus had said while he was with them was true. Jesus was the son of God and son of man. Stephen forgives the People who are killing him and he asks God to do the same. Good News!
No matter what happens to us here, Jesus is with God in Heaven. Jesus is our rescuer and he will bring us home with him.
It is this good news that Paul is writing to the Galatians about.
4 Jesus gave himself for our sins to free us from this evil world we live in. This is what God the Father wanted. 5 The glory belongs to God forever and ever. Amen.
How amazing is it that Paul who writes the words above is the man who was at the killing of Stephen.
What does this tell us about Jesus?
It does not matter what we have done or where we have been, Jesus' love is big enough to cover us all. He calls us to come follow Him. This is good news.

Playhouse Kids Make a Baby Moses Basket and remember that just like God took care of Moses, He will take care of you too!
You will need:
A plate for the water (a blue one would be perfect but you could also colour it in or cover it with blue paper or cellophane)
A paper bag
Tape
Some coloured paper (green for the reeds and another colour for baby Moses)
Textas/Markers
Some wool or similar material that you could use for a blanket for Moses.
Write “Just like Baby Moses, God has a plan for you!” around the edge of the plate.
Roll the top of the paper bag all the way down so it makes a small basket shape.
Cut out a baby shape and draw a face on the baby (or if you need something quicker, you could use a duplo figurine or baby doll). Place the baby in the bag and cover with the wool/blanket material.
Cut out some reed/plant shapes and stick them on one side of the plate.
You’re all done!

Stuck In The Mud - This game is fun to play and it’s all about rescuing people! When we play this game we can remember that God will ALWAYS come to save us. Here’s how we play...
Set out a play area for this game. Select one player to be IT. Once play begins, IT has to tag other players. Once tagged, players are stuck in the mud. They have to stay where they are when they were tagged, with their legs apart. Players who aren’t stuck, can free people who are stuck in the mud, by crawling through their legs. Once players are freed, they can run around again.
Good News!
Jesus' love is big enough for all of us.
How many people can fit under an umbrella and not get wet?
Wait for a rainy day or try this outside with a sprinkler hose.
Send us a picture of how many people can fit under your umbrella.
Know that God's love for us is so big, He sent Jesus to cover all of our sins. We can all fit under the Jesus umbrella. The word that we use to describe this is Grace.
This is Good News
