What’s Happening -    Good News, God knows how to rescue us when we are stuck. Whether we are stuck in the mud or stuck in an emotion, God knows how to set us free. Even better, Jesus has sent his spirit to live in us so we can help others when they are stuck too. This week we are exploring the story of Moses and Paul, both lived a long time ago and both were given messages that set people free. God wants to do this for everyone and he wants us to help Him do it!

SHARE - CONNECT MATERIAL FOR TREEHOUSE KIDS - Galatians 2:11-21

Have you ever had a friend who treated you differently when other kids were around?

This is the worst! Why do you think this happens?

Have you ever done this? Why?

In our story this week we see what Paul did when he saw this happening.

Paul is writing to the Galatians to tell them not to add anything extra to Jesus' saving grace invitation. You don't have to have purple hair, half a moustache or be totally weird. All you have to do is say yes Jesus and follow him.

Let’s find out what happened.

11 When Peter came to Antioch, I was against him because he was wrong. 12 This is what happened: When Peter first came to Antioch, he ate with the non-Jewish people. But then some Jewish men were sent from James. When they arrived, Peter stopped eating with the non-Jewish people and separated himself from them. So Peter was a hypocrite.

How do you think that made the people feel?

Do you know what a hypocrite is?

Someone who says one thing and then does another.

I think we can all do that sometimes right?

Let’s find out what Paul does.

The other Jewish believers joined with him and were hypocrites, too. Even Barnabas was influenced by what these Jewish believers did. 14 I saw what they did

Why do you think they did that?

Did they agree with each other?

Did they feel like they belonged together?

Have you ever had a time where you did that, because you wanted to belong?

Paul says,

They were not following the truth of the Good News. So I spoke to Peter in front of them all. I said: “Peter, you are a Jew, but you are not living like a Jew. You are living like the non-Jewish people. So why do you now try to force the non-Jewish people to live like Jews?”

Have you ever faced up to someone when you saw something was wrong?

Paul does this and we can too?

Paul says,

I do not live anymore—it is Christ living in me. I still live in my body, but I live by faith in the Son of God. He loved me and gave himself to save me. 21 This gift is from God, and it is very important to me. If the law could make us right with God, then Christ did not have to die.

I love the words I live by faith in the son of God.

We can have faith in him. It's not about what we do it's about who we choose. Then he helps us do the next right good thing.

God accepts us and loves us in Jesus name. He asks us to do the same. To love each other as he loves us. Jesus showed Paul how to do this, Paul shows us and we can show others too.

Playhouse Kids -  Everyone is precious to Jesus.

If you’re small or big old or young, Jesus loves you. Sometimes people do terrible things to each other. This makes Jesus very sad. He wants you to be kind and do good things, just like the princess and sister in our story this week.

While you're making this Baby Moses Basket craft, think up ways that you can be kind and good.

Jesus calls all of us to make something beautiful together. That might be a family, a friendship, a garden or an artwork. Whatever it is when Jesus is at the centre of  it, good things happen.

Go searching for a collection of things that you can use to make a picture. It might be old books that are going to be thrown out, old shoe laces, crayons and paint, cotton wool, whatever appeals to you. Lay your collection out in front of you and take a moment to dream about what this collection could be. Get to work and build what you see.

STUCK IN THE MUD

This game is fun to play and it’s all about rescuing people! When we play this game we can remember that God will ALWAYS come to save us. Here’s how we play...

Set out a play area for this game. Select one player to be IT. Once play begins, IT has to tag other players. Once tagged, players are stuck in the mud. They have to stay where they are when they were tagged, with their legs apart. Players who aren’t stuck, can free people who are stuck in the mud, by crawling through their legs. Once players are freed, they can run around again.

 Listing what you like.

It’s so easy to get stuck in what we don’t like and what we think is wrong. Jesus calls us to live a life full of love, so let’s begin by choosing to see what we like and look for all that is right. When it seems we can’t see anything that we like, look to Jesus hold his hand and rest in him.

Start your like list with the simplest of things, for example I like that I can have a hot shower, I like that I can hear the birds sing. I like my pillow. Then work up to what you love.I love that Jesus loves me and you. Think on these things.
