Who makes up your family?

Do you have people in your family who are not blood relatives but you think of them and treat them as family?

Who do you go to when you need help?

God’s plan was that we would always be family, the kind of family that is always ready to help.

In the very start of the Bible, in the book of Genesis, God makes a promise to Abraham. God promises that because he believes in God, Abraham’s descendant would make a way for us to be family again and we would be adopted into God’s Family.

Jesus was that descendant! He was going to be one of Abraham’s great great great great great ………….grandchildren.

When we believe in Jesus we are adopted into God’s family.

What does that mean? Watch this video and find out.

God made families to help each other.

Paul is reminding the Galatians about this promise in verse 15

15 Brothers, let me give you an example: Think about an agreement that a person makes with another person. After that agreement is accepted by both people, no one can stop that agreement or add anything to it.

What do you think the people were trying to add to the promise of Jesus?

17 This is what I mean: God had an agreement with Abraham and promised to keep it. The law, which came 430 years later, cannot change God’s promise to Abraham.

18 Can following the law give us what God promised? No! If this is so, it is not God’s promise that brings us the blessings. Instead God freely gave his blessings to Abraham through the promise he had made.

19 So what was the law for? The law was given to show the wrong things people do. It continued until the special descendant of Abraham came. God’s promise was about this descendant..

24 So the law was our master until Christ came. After Christ came, we could be made right with God through faith. 25 Now the way of faith has come, and we no longer live under the law.

Keeping the law is all about what we are doing. It all about me.

Believing in Jesus is all about what Jesus has done and believing in him.

Jesus invites us to do life with him, does that mean we do what we like?

No, it means that when we meet Jesus we want to do what he likes. Meeting Jesus and believing that he gave up everything just for us changes how selfish we are and we learn to be selfless.

Jesus invites us to play on his team, team Jesus. Can you imagine how his team would play?

A Family Tree

Jesus calls us to be part of his family, to build a place where everyone is welcome..  Instead of only putting the family that we are born into on the tree add in all the people that you love. Imagine God's family tree, full of all the people that he loves. How big do you think God’s tree is? Printable family tree

I Spy

What do we choose to see? Jesus looks on us with love. This means he is cheering us on to do good things, not waiting for us to do something wrong. This week let’s learn to look on our family friends and the people we meet with love.

I spy is a guessing game where one player chooses an object within sight and announces to the other players that "Eye spy with my little eye, something beginning with...", naming the first letter of the object. Other players attempt to guess this object.

Stuck in the Mud

So often we get stuck in a way of thinking or in a bad place and we can’t get out. Remembering how much Jesus loves us is just like someone setting us free in this game of stuck in the mud. Every time you set someone free know that this is what Jesus has done for us for ever!

How to play:

Choose one player to be in.

The player who is in must run around and tag as many other players as they can.

When tagged, a player becomes 'stuck in the mud', they cannot move and must stand with their legs and arms apart.

The only way to be freed is for a non-tagged player to crawl through their legs.

We would love to see you playing, trying, making and sharing! Please share your photos with your KellyvilleKids community in our WhatsApp Group. If you’re new to our KellyvilleKids community and would like to stay connected, contact us.
